M-hotel is a new concept in apart-hotels. It is luxurious, beautifully appointed – and temporary. It arrives on the back of a series of low-loaders; a steel frame is set up on the site, and the units are slotted into it. The first home for m-hotel is in Hoxton, next to the Shoreditch Goods Yard where we have secured an 8-year lease. The second seems likely to be just round the corner.
A direct result of the many new corporate towers springing up across the City fringe is a massive rise in the number of European executives set to arrive in London, all of whom will need a more welcoming and comfortable place to stay, for a longer period of time than is practical (or desirable) in an average hotel.
M-hotel is contemporary apart-hotel designed to be rented by Corporates for periods of up to 3 months. Here, executives can stay in a home-from-home environment (but probably a lot better) which allows them to entertain, relax (and work) in the centre of the coolest London quarter, a stone’s throw from the office.
Work is due to start in Summer 2008 and complete by the end of the year. Once the formerly derelict site is due for more permanent development, m-hotel leaves town. The units may then be reused - although not necessarily as a hotel, but as sheltered or temporary housing that will benefit society in the longer term.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if
m-hotel ends up being as temporary as the Eiffel Tower”. Site owner, October 2007.
